Help keep African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. Support CTAOP!

In 2007, Academy Award winning actress, UN Messenger of Peace and activist Charlize Theron created the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program. The goal of CTAOP for the last six years has been to support African youth in the fight against HIV/AIDS, through education, prevention and fostering open communication. The organization focuses on the entire region of sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on Theron’s home country of South Africa.

“We’re at a very, very crucial moment right now, where one decision can decide the future [of African youth] for the rest of their lives,” says Theron of her mission. “When it comes to this work, I think my dream is that this generation can make that change. The reality of stopping AIDS is around the corner. That’s the part that maybe drives me the most and I want to get that really across. We. Can. Stop. AIDS.”

In celebration of World AIDS Day, share the below video and the message that, with the right resources and intentions, the dream of AIDS-free planet can be a reality.

RYOT NOTE: There is a lot that has to happen before HIV/AIDS is completely eradicated, but it is within our generation’s power to make that happen. Charlize’ CTAOP provides HIV/AIDS preventive education, health screening, counseling, psychosocial support, voluntary HIV testing as well as referrals to home-based care and treatment for those infected. Support the cause, share the message and become the news!
