In a country where one in every three women is illiterate, 71 percent of women don’t work and a woman is raped every 20 minutes, India appears to be in need of some major changes.

In response to these disturbing statistics, Buzzfeed asked people in India why they “want, need and deserve a more feminist India.” What they had to say is pretty profound.

These bold men and women responded through photos of themselves, holding signs of their written expression.
